There are lots of questions that can be raised regarding ‘part-time art’. And my motto still is: questions are more important than answers. Questions like, how do the ‘regular job’ and the ‘art work’ relate? What is the starting point? What gets priority? Does the artist has to look for a ‘regular job’ in order to survive (like my friend Pablo W.)? Or is the idea more to purposefully seeking a combination of two different types of activity in order to use both types of qualities, or to reach a better balanced life? And is it true that a full-time artist is more likely to be considered as being part of his/her artistic work, in other words, work and person may fall more easily together? Or that a part-time artists may on the contrary not be considered as a ‘real’ artist. I suppose that this can only be solved by showing quality results.
Being a part-time artist explains why expositions and selling are not very essential to me. The main challenge is my ‘odyssey’, that journey towards a better comprehension of art in all its dimensions, practically as well as intellectually.
