Some use artifacts, e.g. Olafur Eliasson, creating icebergs during a UN climate summit. Others choose photography like David Maisel, picturing US open pit mines. The construction of installations using thrash is popular, e.g. the art collective Luzinterruptus with its ‘Labyrinth of Plastic Waste’, or Schachter and Levi‘s dome, assembled from 450 umbrellas and 128 bottles. Pigments can be withdrawn from oxidized sludge of abandoned coal mines, like John Sabraw did. Barry Underwood combined painting, photography, performance, cinema and land art to highlight light pollution and deforestation. Etc. etc.
Many use contemporary art as a means to raise awareness of the environmental and climate crisis.
