Fortunately, the weather was quite OK, so conditions for a visit tour were fine. I used a bicycle to go rapidly from one workshop to the other. Leiden has various concentrations of artists workshops, usually old deserted schools, at times revamped for such a purpose. These centres usually had special activities organised, to create a festive atmosphere, and to attract visitors.
Based on my small sample of artists, I conclude that quality varies considerably. There are some very good artists, like Marijk Gerritsma and Willem van Scheijndel. They have art works that are nicely painted, with a good composition and well-chosen colours. Some work is very conventional or repetitive. And there are quite some people whose artistic performance does not impress at all. I won't mention names here. The same observation as last year: remarkably, some artists took little trouble to properly present themselves, or 'sell' their product, visibly uninterested or annoyed, as if the event was something compulsory for them.
It struck me that some visiting people indeed bought art works, so also for the artists the event may have considerable relevance.
