It is interesting to note that such an event has various dimensions. Of course, there is the main objective: showing my artistic work to interested people. Well, about 90 people visited the exhibition, in my appreciation a very satisfactory number, since there was no specific publicity organised. More important, a considerable number expressed appreciation for the work in one way or the other, asked questions about its significance or meaning, or showed interest for technical aspects. Four works got sold and I received two commissions. Once more, I experienced how people have different perceptions, views, interpretations and appreciations of a certain painting.
But there is other strong dimension, a social one. Apparently such an exhibition is an attractive and strong reason for friends and neighbours to come and visit you. So such an event also gets the character of a reunion. Old friendships get reconfirmed, new friendships develop or are getting strengthened, knowledge is exchanged or updated. An exhibition may truly have festive qualities.
